Abstract
Purpose: Authors evaluated the efficacy of single interlaminar epidural steroid injection in lumbar spinal stenosis.

Materials and Methods: There are total 210 patients who are diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis in this study. They had complained of low back pain and/or radiating pain for at least 6weeks without surgery. They received a fluoroscopically guided interlaminar epidural steroid injection. Efficacy of injection was checked for difference of Visual
Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), relief duration and pain duration retrospectively.

Results: The mean pain and relief duration was 34.2 weeks and 9.6 weeks, respectively. Back pain and radiating pain VAS was improved 2.7¡¾1.9 and 2.6¡¾1.9, individually. Difference of pretreatment ODI and posttreatment ODI was 10.3¡¾5.6. 34.3% reported improvement more than 4 of back pain VAS and 36.2% reported 2 to 3. 31.4% reported improvement than 4 of radiating pain VAS and 35.7% reported improvement 2 to 3. 25.7% reported improvement more than 15 of ODI and 33.8% reported improvement 10 to 14.

Conclusion: Interlaminar epidural steroid injection is a reasonable treatment before surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis.
